Privacy
The short version: we only keep what's needed to run the app, we never sell your data, and you can delete everything at any time.
Your account
You need an account to use the map. We store:
- Your email and a securely encrypted password.
- Your display name (optional) and the university you pick.
- Your home address and favourite places, if you add them — only you can see these.
- Deals you save, your 👍/👎 votes, spots you suggest and issues you report.
Your location
We only ask for your location when you tap "Use my location" or the locate button. It's used on your device to centre the map and show distances. It is never saved or stored — closing or reloading the page forgets it.
Maps and search
The map, shop photos, reviews and walking times come from Google Maps. Google receives your IP address and the area you're looking at as part of normal map requests — see Google's privacy policy. When you ask a question in the search bar, your text is sent to an AI service to pick matching spots; it isn't used to identify you.
Emails
We only email you to confirm your account or reset your password. No marketing.
Cookies
We only use what's needed to keep you signed in. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Deleting your data
Delete your account any time from the Account page. This permanently removes your account, saved deals, places, votes, reports and pending suggestions.
Your rights & contact
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete your data. Email privacy@studentspots.co.uk. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
